The members of J&K Bar Association, Srinagar, held a sit-in protest today outside High Court premises to register their protest against the civilian killing at Kulgam, Fateh Kadal, Kupwara and Baramulla and also against the ransacking of houses and damaging and looting of properties at Trisal, Redwani, Newa and many other places and while condemning all these brutal atrocities, demanded an immediate end to the same and an independent enquiry into the matters through an international probe agency. Those who spoke on the occasion included Mr. M.A. Qayoom, Advocate & President; Mr. Z. A. Shah, Senior Advocate; Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Maqdoomi, Advocate; Mr. Arshad Andrabi, Advocate and Nazir Ahmad Tabassum, Advocate, who all stressed for the need of resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the people so as to bring an immediate end to the sufferings and miseries of the people.
The Bar members later took out a procession outside the court premises, raising slogans against the State sponsored terrorism and for settling the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people guaranteed to them by the UN Security Council Resolutions and the pledges and promises made to them by the Indian leaders both inside and outside the Parliament and at the world fora. They also expressed their solidarity with the people of Kulgam, Fateh Kadal, Baramulla and Kupwara and demanded that the international community should play its role in resolving Kashmir issue to avoid the possibility of a nuclear war between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue. The lawyers tried to march towards Lal Chowk but were stopped by the police at the gate of the High Court premises from proceeding ahead which made them to disperse.
